Serco keeps new development programme in-house

Serco, specialists in the delivery of essential public services for governments across the globe, use MTa Insights and MTa Coaching Skills kits in their leadership and management training modules, including team working and communication programmes, but especially their ILM programme.  They have recently incorporated MTa activities into their coaching programme too.
“Our delivery of MTa activities has generated very favourable feedback internally, which has led to the current Executive supporting the launch of another Team Development training programme, to be delivered by my team, instead of an external contractor.
Serco Middle East’s Learning & Development Manager believes that their investment both in MTa materials and Masterclasses, is money well spent.
“I first observed MTa materials during a practical demonstration by Jamie Thompson at the Training and Development Show in Dubai.  I admired the MTa approach, which encourages adults to learn from their own experience after they reflect on their performance during well-designed activities.  We soon realised that we couldn’t replicate these activities ourselves in-house, so purchasing the kit was a no-brainer.”
The next step was to enrol on an MTa Facilitator Masterclass.  “I wanted to understand more about the philosophy behind the MTa approach to experiential learning.  Using and seeing the materials in use was incredibly useful.  The masterclass provided me with valuable CPD and helped me achieve my own professional development targets.”
In fact, he has now sent eight of his team members onto MTa Facilitator Masterclasses to improve their facilitator skills and ensure the investment in MTa kit is being consistently maximised.
“We find that MTa materials are very practical and fun to use, and very much based on the experiential learning model.  Our participants enjoy the well-designed activities and our trainers love the detailed instructions and guidance provided in the manuals.  Being able to observe the natural behaviours of our learners in this environment is invaluable in helping them identify behavioural improvements and reflect on their implementation in the workplace.  The fact that they are flexible enough to be used across different levels of seniority is an added bonus, meaning we really get a lot of use out of the kits.”
So what benefits have Serco gained from their investment in MTa materials and facilitator training?
“We’ve all benefited from having MTa activities on hand to integrate into our L&D programmes.  They add a fun element, due to the hands-on nature of the physical kit.
The activities are already designed, so this saves us time: we can pick and choose what to include in each programme and where, without having to reinvent the wheel.  My team members have improved their facilitation skills, and this supports our own team training delivery plan.  But best of all, it has generated very favourable feedback internally, which has led to the current Executive supporting the launch of another Team Development training programme, to be delivered by us, instead of going to an external contractor.”
